What is the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival?
The Santa Cruz Fringe Festival is a brand new performing arts festival that will take place on July 13-22, 2012. The Festival will bring approximately 175 performances by about 35 different acts to several downtown venues over the 10-day period. There will literally be something for everyone--theater, dance, comedy, performance art, spoken word, circus, musical theater, puppetry, kids shows, burlesque…just to name a few. Expect to see shows that are avant-garde, edgy and out of the box, but you will also find shows that are traditional, classical or ethnic. Fringe performances are short, ticket prices are cheap, and this combination allows for spectators to easily see several shows in one day. A typical Fringe-going day could happen like this: you make your way downtown at a leisurely hour to catch a dance production at Motion at the Mill. Then you have a nice lunch and see a spoken word show at The Tannery. You do a little shopping, get a snack, and then it’s off for some theater at Center Stage.
